With the theme “Recovering from the pandemic: Designing post-pandemic education in digitally infused world”, the event attracted the participation of around 600 officials and teachers from nine member countries, namely Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
Discussions at the event focused on measures to narrow the gap in digital transformation in education, the participation in the new teaching and learning methods, empowerment for teachers in post-pandemic learning recovery, and improvement of teacher qualifications after the pandemic.
The Vietnamese delegation delivered a Country Report with the theme "Vietnam's Education during the Pandemic: Barriers and Measures to Improve Quality in the Post-pandemic Period" and another on solutions to narrow the digital gap in education.
Vietnam held to goalless draw with Palestine in friendly match
Vietnam’s U20 team was held to a goalless draw in a friendly match against Palestine on September 3 at Viet Tri Stadium in the northern province of Phu Tho.
Vietnam joined the match with a strong squad and had a lot of chances to score, while their Palestinian opponents demonstrated a tight defence and quick counterattack.
The match was a warm-up for the Vietnamese team before they move to Indonesia for the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 qualifiers in less than two weeks ahead.
Vietnam will play in Group F alongside Hong Kong (China), Timor Leste and hosts Indonesia. Palestine will be in Group C with Japan, Yemen, Laos and Guam.
Most of the U20 Vietnamese players are from the U19 team that triumphed at the 2022 International Thanh Nien (Youth) Newspaper Cup after a series of victories against Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia.
Long-haul bus operator fined for carrying 71 passengers
The traffic police of the southern province of Dong Nai yesterday fined the driver and operator of a 46-seat, long-haul bus VND21 million for carrying 71 passengers.
The vehicle traveled along National Highway 1A from HCMC to the coastal province of Binh Thuan.
The traffic police officers were conducting a patrol in Suoi Tre Ward, Long Khanh City, at some 5pm of the same day when they decided to pull over the bus, operated by Thanh Dat.
The findings showed 71 passengers crammed into the bus with only 46 seats.
The driver and passenger bus operator were fined VND10.5 million each.
The police also impounded the registration inspection certificate and driver’s license of Nguyen Tan Loi, 36, who resides in Binh Thuan.
The passengers said they had to cram inside the bus because tickets at the Mien Dong Bus Station were sold out.
After the violation was booked, all passengers were moved to other vehicles and transported to their destination.
Condolences extended to family of French communist over her death
Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang on September 2 visited the family of French communist Raymonde Dien - a symbol of the fight against the war by French colonialists in Vietnam, who passed away on August 19 at the age of 93.
The ambassador conveyed condolences by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and former Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Bin to the deceased family.
Born on May 13, 1929 in the western part of France, Raymonde Dien is known by the Vietnamese and other peoples in the world for lying on the rail to block a train carrying tanks and other weapons to Indochina on February 23, 1950. Later, she joined other French communists in their support to the Vietnamese people in their fight against the French colonialists and US imperialists, for the struggle for peace for Vietnam.
On September 2, 2004, she was decorated with a Friendship Order by the Vietnamese State.
Even in her last days, she still joined various events on Vietnam, especially those in support of Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange.
In the message of condolences, the Commission for External Relations affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State and people always keep in mind sentiments and valuable support of the French communist for Vietnam’s past struggle for national liberation, as well as its cause of national construction and defence.
On behalf of the Party Central Committee and Party leaders, the commission extended its deepest sympathy to the French Communist Party and the deceased family.
HCM City to focus on COVID vaccination in September
HCM City officials are working on increasing the relatively low COVID-19 vaccination rate among children.
Nguyễn Hồng Tâm, deputy director of the Hồ Chí Minh City Centre for Disease Control (HCDC), said the rate of children aged 12-18 in the city who have got a third shot is 32 per cent compared to the national average of 50 per cent.
The rate for children aged five to 12 is also low.
Department of Health will focus on vaccinations throughout September, even during the Independence Day holidays, which lasted from September 1 to 4.
It has instructed the HCDC to supply enough vaccines to all hospitals and healthcare centres, especially during the four-day holidays.
It plans to advocate the vaccine’s benefits and set a clear vaccination schedule for people in the city.
Vaccination centres will be set up at central hospitals, children's hospitals and healthcare centres and will be open every day.
Sufficient staff will be allocated to them to ensure the public can be vaccinated in time.
The number of COVID cases has gradually risen again in the city. On August 8 there were 163 new cases including 38 severe ones reported by the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
Vietnam's National Day marked in Japan, Laos, South Africa
The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan held a concert on September 2 to celebrate the 77th anniversary of National Day of Vietnam with the participation of government officials and representatives of parties of Japan and diplomatic missions in Tokyo.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Hong Nam reviewed Vietnam's achievements over the past 77 years.
From one of the least developed countries in the world, Vietnam has become a middle-income developing country and is recognised by the United Nations as one of the leading countries in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), he said.
Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 190 countries around the world and has economic partnerships with more than 230 countries and territories. It is a member of 15 free trade agreements (FTAs) and is also an active member of more than 70 multilateral organisations and forums, he added.
Regarding the ties with Japan, the Ambassador said the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2023, and expressed his belief that the Vietnam-Japan relations will continue to develop strongly and substantively in the coming time.
On the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos hosted a banquet to mark the National Day and the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Laos
In his remarks, Vietnamee Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung said that the Vietnamese Party, State and people always attach great importance to and will do their best, together with the Lao Party, State and people, to preserve and develop the friendly relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Lao Party, State and people for their always solidarity with and support to Vietnam.
While applauding remarkable achievements that Vietnam obtained in the past 77 years, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith affirmed that the Lao Party and Government will continue to promote the great friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries for the common benefit of the two peoples of Laos and Vietnam, for peace, stability, security and development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) family.
The National Day of Vietnam was also observed at a ceremony held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, on the same day.
National Day celebrated in Canada, Australia
The Vietnamese Consulate General in Vancouver city of Canada’s British Columbia province hosted a ceremony on September 2 to mark the 77th National Day of Vietnam.
In his remarks, Consul General Nguyen Quang Trung highlighted achievements the Vietnamese Government and people have recorded over the past 77 years, and the relations between Vietnam and Canada.
Two-way trade exceeded 10 billion CAD (over 7.6 billion USD) last year despite adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, of which the trade value between Vietnam and British Columbia was 2.5 billion USD.
The trade revenue between Vietnam and Canada reached 6.1 billion CAD in the first half of this year, up nearly 25% year-on-year.
More than 20,000 Vietnamese students are studying at educational institutions across Canada.
On this occasion, Premier of British Columbia John Horgan sent a congratulatory letter to the Vietnamese Consulate General, under which he affirmed that British Columbia wants to promote the friendship with Vietnam.
In his remarks, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation of British Columbia Bruce Ralston emphasised the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Canada and British Columbia in particular, especially in economy, trade and education-training.
Vietnam is an important partner of Canada in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Asia-Pacific, and is one of the most fastest-growing strategic trade partners of British Columbia and Canada as well in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), he affirmed.
A similar ceremony was held by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney, Australia.
Present at the event, Scott Farlow, member of the Legislative Council of New South Wales, said the relations between Vietnam and Australia in general and New South Eales in particular have been developing sustainably, and are expected to grow further on the basis of mutual understanding and respect.
New South Wales wants to promote cooperation opportunities with Vietnam in all fields, from politics to trade, culture and education, he said.
On this occasion, Consul General Nguyen Dang Thang briefed the guests on a number of Vietnam’s trade, investment and tourism promotion programmes in the country.
NA Chairman: ensuring equal education access for all
The Party and the State always pay special attention to education and training, ensuring the equal access to education for all, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed while attending the inaugural ceremony of a high school in a mountainous district of Nghe An province on September 3.
This is the only high school in Ky Son – one of the most 74 disadvantaged districts nationwide, about 250km from Nghe An province’s Vinh city. More than 95% of its students belong to ethnic minority groups in the district.
The 2.6ha school was rebuilt with the funding of 210 billion VND (8.95 million USD) from Trung Nam Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (Trungnam Group). It has a total of 245 rooms, including 171 boarding rooms for students and teachers.
From the 2023-2024, Nghe An will grant scholarships to 120 Lao students at the high school and the provincial ethnic minority boarding school.
NA Chairman Hue said the scholarship programme will help neighbouring Laos in high-quality personnel training, while contributing to promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
He asked the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee to instruct the implementation of the legislature’s Resolution No. 88 and other projects launched by the NA and the Government regarding socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas for 2021-2023, with priorities given to education infrastructure.
Co To Island pilots plastic single-use plastic product ban
Co To Island in the northern province of Quang Ninh has started a pilot programme to ban visitors from bringing plastic products to the island since today, September 1.
The island welcomed around 2,000 visitors on the first day of the national holiday. At 6:30 am, local authorities were present at Cai Rong Port to instruct tourists to exchange their non-biodegradable plastic bags for environmentally-friendly alternatives.
Nguyen Thi Thuy, vice chairwoman of Co To District’s Fatherland Front, said that two staff would be at Cai Rong Port every day to distribute environmentally-friendly plastic bags to tourists. Hotels, tourist sites and local residents also need to disseminate information about the single-use plastic product ban on the island.
After being piloted the programme will be officially applied.
Cu Lao Cham, or Cham Island, in the central province of Quang Nam implemented a similar green plastic bag-free policy.
Universities urged to attract more foreign students
During a conference reviewing the training and management of foreign students in Vietnam from 2016 – 2021 and chalking out plans for the 2022 – 2030 period, held recently in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc has urged Vietnamese universities to improve quality of their programmes and beef up international cooperation to attract more foreign students.
Over 45,000 foreign students from 102 countries and territories enrolled in 155 Vietnamese universities between 2016 and 2021, according to a report by the Ministry of Education and Training’s International Cooperation Department. Of the total student number, 26.6% were offered scholarships under agreements between the Government of Vietnam and foreign governments.
Annually, some 4,000 – 6,000 foreign students come to Vietnam to study. The highest number was reported in 2019 with the total reaching 6,300.
Nearly 80% of the students were from Laos and Cambodia. But as a result of growing relations with the Republic of Korea, China, France and Japan, the number of students from these countries in Vietnam is on a rise.
Vietnam’s National Day celebrated in Cambodia, Brazil
Vietnamese embassies have recently organised ceremonies to mark Vietnam’s 77th National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2022) in Cambodia and Brazil.
Addressing the ceremony in Cambodia, Cambodian President of the National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin lauded the nations’ relations and sound collaboration in the past time, particularly in border planning for a shared border of peace, solidarity, cooperation and development.
The official expressed deep gratitude for Vietnam’s support for Cambodia, especially in helping the nation overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime and the country's national recovery, construction and growth.
At the ceremony in Brazil, Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Paes Saboia emphasised that his nation and Vietnam have developed a solid relationship.
The official expressed his belief that Brazil’s partnership with ASEAN will pave the way for increased cooperation with Southeast Asia, an important region in today's world, in which Vietnam is playing an important role.
President Ho Chi Minh remembered on National Day in France
Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang and representatives of Montreuil city authorities laid a wreath at President Ho Chi Minh’s Monument at Montreau park on September 1, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of National Day (September 2).
Later, they visited the Ho Chi Minh Space at the Museum of Living History in the city.
The same day, Thang hosted a reception for a delegation from the Lao Embassy in France led by Ambassador Kham-Inh Khitchadeth.
The Lao diplomat noted Vietnam’s National Day this year is concurrent with the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam – Laos diplomatic ties and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
Thang expressed his wish that the two countries and embassies in particular will continue exchange activities, especially among young diplomats, to raise their sense of responsibility for fostering bilateral ties.
Mid-autumn festival kicks off in Hanoi’s Old Quarter
A mid-autumn festival began in Hanoi’s Old Quarter on September 1, featuring myriad enticing activities.
The event features stalls selling products and toys for the traditional festival, cultural and art performances, and folk games.
A highlight of the festival includes a contest of arranging mid-autumn offering trays and a procession of lanterns.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem district, which organises the festival, Nguyen Quoc Hoan said it has become a traditional cultural charm of the district, particularly since the Old Quarter was recognised as a national cultural heritage.
The event lasts until September 10.
National Day celebrations in Malaysia, Czech Republic, Venezuela
The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia held a banquet on September 1 to mark the 77th anniversary of National Day (September 2).
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Tran Viet Thai affirmed that with drastic efforts over the past years, Vietnam has been recognised by international friends as an open and vibrant economy, and a trustworthy friend and partner.
Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Hamzah Zainuddin, for his part, expressed delight at achievements and development of all fields in tje Vietnam – Malaysia ties over the past nearly five decades.
At the event, the embassy put on show photos of Vietnam’s landscapes and screened short clips about Vietnamese cuisine.
Participants were also treated to traditional music performances and food.
Recently, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic also held a ceremony on the occasion.
Also on September 1, the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his monument in Caracas capital.
Vietnamese police ready to join UN peacekeeping forces
A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Duy Ngoc is attending the third United Nations Chief of Police Summit (UNCOPs) in New York from August 30 – September 3.
On the occasion, the delegation extended a message that Vietnam is ready to join the international peacekeeping forces.
In a speech, the Vietnamese side highlighted its priorities in the near future, including upholding the rule of law, not only at home but also the basic principles of international law and the UN Charter, and international conventions to which Vietnam is a member; upholding humanitarianism in mass mobilisation for social safety and order; and staying active and creative in sci-tech application to fight crimes.
The official added that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security also suggested the UN send experts to Vietnam to help with personnel training for peacekeeping operations as well as equipment and materials.
Participants at the event discussed response to challenges to peace, security and sustainable development in the current context, and the strengthening of commitments to sending police to UN peacekeeping activities worldwide within the framework of the Initiative on Action for Peacekeeping, the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
Previously, delegations from the Ministry of Public Security also joined the summit in 2016 and 2018.
Int’l organisations, experts call Vietnam a development success story
International organisations and foreign experts have hailed Vietnam as a success story about economic development, social welfare and human rights guarantee.
Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs of Canada Paul Thoppil expressed his admiration at Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over the past 77 years.
In the latest report in April 2022, the World Bank called Vietnam a development success story which transformed into a lower middle- income country in one generation from its humble beginning as one of the poorest nations globally.
Between 2002 and 2021, per capita GDP increased 3.6 times, reaching almost 3,700 USD. Poverty rates (1.9 USD per day) declined sharply from over 32% in 2011 to below 2%.
Thanks to its solid foundations, the economy has proven resilient through different crises, the latest being the COVID-19 pandemic. Vietnam fulfilled several economic targets in 2021, becoming one of the top 20 economies globally in terms of international trade.
Valeria Vershinina, an expert on Vietnam at the ASEAN Centre under the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, affirmed that Vietnam is seen as a “middle-level power” by international scholars.
Meanwhile, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Perry Steil regarded Vietnam as a bright example for countries worldwide to learn from experience in pandemic response while maintaining socio-economic development.
Analysts forecast that Vietnam’s economic growth this year will be high, given a record growth of 7.72% in 11 years in the second quarter which surpassed the previous prediction of 5.9%.
Harvard University’s research result showed that Vietnam is forecast to be among the fastest growing economies in the world by 2030.
US Secretary of State sends greetings to Vietnam on 77th National Day
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, on behalf of the US government, on Sept. 1 (Hanoi time) sent greetings to the Vietnamese government and people on the occasion of Vietnam’s 77th National Day (Sept. 2).
A release from the US State Department said the Secretary highlighted the achievements the US and Vietnam have jointly recorded over the past in accelerating the common priorities on regional security, prosperity, climate change fight, global health challenge settlement and intensifying relations and exchanges between the two peoples.
The Secretary affirmed the bilateral friendship on the basis of the US support to a strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam, as well as long-term commitments by the two sides in settling war consequences and humanitarian issues. He expressed his hope for continued cooperation with the Vietnamese government and people to bring about prosperity, peace and stability for both countries and the Indo-Pacific region.
Earlier, within the framework of the US-Vietnam Dialogue in Asia-Pacific held in Washington D.C. on August 30, US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink and Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu exchanged ideas on issues related to the two countries’ common concern in pushing up peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Authorities repatriate over 600 citizens lured to work illegally in Cambodia
The Foreign Ministry and Vietnam’s representative agencies in Cambodia have coordinated with the two countries’ authorities to safely repatriate over 600 citizens who had been tricked or lured to Cambodia for illegal work so far.
The agencies are also verifying personal information of some people rescued by the Cambodian side and will help them return home soon.
Under the Foreign Ministry’s direction, the representative agencies of Vietnam in Cambodia have worked with local authorities to assist and rescue Vietnamese nationals tricked or lured to work illegally there, and asked Cambodia not to impose administrative fines on these persons.
The ministry’s Consular Department has also proposed domestic agencies and localities bordering Cambodia apply mechanisms for quick verification and reception of the rescued citizens.
The Foreign Ministry and representative agencies are keeping a close watch on the situation of Vietnamese workers in Cambodia. They are also coordinating with the countries’ authorities to swiftly receive information, rescue, carry out citizen protection measures, and repatriate the ones tricked or lured to work illegally abroad.
On September 1, border guards of the Mekong Delta province of An Giang and relevant forces received 26 Vietnamese citizens handed over by Cambodian authorities at the Tinh Bien International Border Gate.
Lt. Col. Tran Hoa Hiep, head of the border guard post at the Tinh Bien International Border Gate, said the group consist of three women and 23 men, including 11 related to the Rich World casino, from which many workers strived to flee to Vietnam on August 18.
On August 18, 40 people, comprising 35 men and five women, escaped from the Rich World casino, located in Sampeou Poun commune of Kaoh Thom district in Cambodia’s Kandal province, and swam across the Binh Ghi River to illegally return to Vietnam.
Apart from them, one died from drowning on the river and one was captured by casino guards.
They said they were forced to toil and not paid, so they decided to flee to Vietnam.
Investigating the case, police have uncovered four rings showing signs of human trafficking in some localities.
An Giang police have detained and started legal proceedings against one woman and one man on the charge of arranging illegal exit for other people.
Vallet scholarships granted to 230 students in Thua Thien – Hue province
The scientific and educational organisation "Meeting Vietnam" on September 2 presented 230 Vallet scholarships worth VND4 billion (US$170,484) in total to outstanding students in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
Established in 2001, the organisation’s Vallet Scholarship Fund has been sponsored by Professor Odon Vallet from France’s Sorbonne University. Over the past two decades, it has granted more than VND350 billion worth of scholarships to Vietnamese students.
Over the past two decades, the organisation presented more than 4,500 Vallet scholarships to students in Thua Thien – Hue province alone.
This year, 2,100 Vallet scholarships, whose total value exceeds VND36 billion, are set to be presented to Vietnamese pupils and students across the nation.
Waterspout sweeps through Tri An lake in Dong Nai
A waterspout developed at Tri An lake in the southern province of Dong Nai on September 2.
The waterspout occurred at the lake bed at around 4:45 p.m., collecting water from the reservoir to form a columnar vortex. It then moved to the shore where it damaged a number of fish-farming rafts.
According to local authorities, the waterspout caused no casualties, although it completely destroyed a raft house, swept away a fishing boat, and turned two rafts and two fishing boats upside down.
Waterspouts are rarely seen in Vietnam, according to a representative of the Dong Nai Hydro-meteorological Station.
Previously, a waterspout appeared in April in the southern province of Kien Giang, scaring many tourists.
Binh Duong launches Bach Dang night market and walking street
Binh Duong province launched the Bach Dang night market and walking street at Phu Cuong ward, Thu Dau Mot city on September 2.
Bach Dang pedestrian street has a total area of over 2.4 ha and a length of 762m, beginning from the Bach Dang - Ngo Quyen intersection along the Saigon River and ending at the intersection of Huynh Van Cu - Nguyen Van Cu.
The project is invested with about 650 billion VND from the state budget as one of the works to celebrate the 77th anniversary of National Day.
The night market has subdivisions such as: a cultural and art area, entertainment area, food court, souvenirs, handicrafts, and the parking area.
The walking space is connected with Bach Dang street to create a landscape along the banks of the Saigon River, stretching from Bach Dang wharf to Phu Cuong bridge, contributing to boosting the green landscape along the Saigon River.
Earlier on the same day, the Thu Dau Mot Open Traditional Boat Race 2022 was held with various activities such as a fly board performance, jet-ski, and dragon dance performances.
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum sees nearly 29,000 visitors on National Day
The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi welcomed 28,688 visitors on the morning of the National Day (September 2), according to the management board.
The mausoleum was scheduled to open until 10:30am, but the board decided to extend the opening time to accommodate the large number of visitors from all over the country and international friends arriving on this special day to pay their respect to the late founding father of Vietnam.
BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 closes
The BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022, part of the Asian Development Tour (ADT), closed in central Da Nang city on September 2 after three days of competition.
Golfer Guxin Chen of China won the championship title and a cash prize of 13,125 USD.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Phuoc Son said the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 is the beginning of a series of golf events, affirming the potential and position of Vietnam in the international golf market.
The BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 drew the participation of 115 foreign and domestic players at BRG Da Nang Golf Resort in the central city of Da Nang from August 31 to September 2. The event had a total prize pool of 75,000 USD.
Finswimmers hunt World Cup wins in Thailand
Việt Nam's 18 athletes will compete in the Finswimming's World Cup in Phuket, Thailand.
It is their first international competition since the 31st SEA Games more than three months ago.
"The world event is a really good chance for my athletes to sharpen their skills and improve their international experience," said Nguyễn Ngọc Anh of the Việt Nam Sports Administration's finswimming section.
Anh said SEA Games champions such as Nguyễn Thành Lộc and Phạm Thị Thu were expected to grab high results in the Phuket event, which will wrap up on September 4.
Finswimming was organised at the SEA Games for the first time in 13 years in May in Hà Nội.
Việt Nam dominated the event, winning 10 out of 13 gold medals.

Sahako looks to surprise at first regional futsal tournament
Vietnamese representative Sahako FC will compete in the AFF Futsal Club Championship during September 4-10 in Thailand.
Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Anh and his men arrived in Nakhon Ratchasima on August 29 and are ready for their first regional tournament.
Seven teams are divided into two groups. Sahako FC, currently raked at the top of the Việt Nam National Futsal Championship, are in Group B with Selangor FC (Malaysia) and Ramelau (Timor Leste), both of whom are defending champion clubs in their countries' leagues.
Group A gathers Thai Futsal League's first runner-up Hongyen Thakam, Cambodian winners Dow Town Sport, Indonesian champions Bintang Timur Surabaya and Perwira, the winning club of Brunei.
Teams will compete in a round robin format in the group stage with the two best ones advancing to the semi-finals.
Việt Nam's best result at the championship was second place in 2016 (Thái Sơn Nam FC), 2017 (Sanna Khánh Hòa FC) and 2019 (Sanatech Khánh Hòa FC).
Since its first competition in 2015, the championship trophy has belonged to Thai representatives.
