Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has called for stronger economic and technology diplomacy with India, highlighting opportunities in high-tech industries, investment and transport connectivity between the two countries.
As part of his trip to attend the 18th BRICS Summit and conduct bilateral activities in India, Le Minh Hung visited and held a working session with the Vietnamese Embassy in New Delhi on the afternoon of Sept. 13.
After hearing reports and comments at the meeting, the prime minister praised the embassy for working with relevant agencies to prepare for the current visit by Vietnam’s high-level delegation, as well as the state visit to India by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam in May 2026.

Le Minh Hung said his current trip further demonstrated Vietnam’s growing role, reputation and standing internationally, in line with the country’s policy of strengthening, consolidating and developing partnerships with all countries, building friendships and expanding relations for peace, stability, cooperation and shared development in the region and around the world.
The prime minister said he had just held highly productive talks with his Indian counterpart, helping to further translate agreements reached during To Lam’s visit into concrete action and advance the substance of the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and India.
Le Minh Hung said the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam had identified foreign affairs and international integration as key and regular priorities.

He noted that Vietnam and India still have considerable potential, room and foundations for strengthening their relationship, which rests on a solid base, particularly political trust, longstanding traditional ties and a positive shared history. India is one of Vietnam’s leading partners, he said.
The prime minister stressed that Vietnamese diplomats, particularly officials serving overseas, must have a firm grasp of the Communist Party’s perspectives, policies and new thinking on foreign affairs, both generally and in relation to the countries where they are posted, and apply them in their daily work.
He called for regular assessments and updates on rapidly changing and complex developments, with diplomats closely following conditions on the ground and making recommendations to relevant authorities on maintaining, expanding and strengthening cooperation with partners, including India.
According to Le Minh Hung, the Politburo has issued a number of strategic resolutions adopting innovative approaches, all of which directly or indirectly affect the work of Vietnam’s diplomatic agencies and officials.
Diplomatic practices must therefore continue to evolve, he said, with officials following initiatives through to completion and focusing on tangible outcomes. Concrete results and practical deliverables should serve as measures of performance, based on specific criteria for each area of responsibility, with the ultimate goal of benefiting Vietnam while ensuring a balance of interests with its partners.

In India, the prime minister asked the Vietnamese Embassy to continue serving as a bridge between the two countries, helping strengthen trust, proactively monitoring developments, advising relevant authorities and providing comprehensive information to agencies in Vietnam.
These efforts should support stronger cooperation in science and technology, innovation, defense and security, economics, trade and investment, among other fields.
Highlighting the importance of economic and technology diplomacy, Le Minh Hung outlined several key areas for future Vietnam-India cooperation.
These include stronger road, rail, maritime and air connectivity, with a gradual increase in the number of flights between the two countries; financial cooperation and trade; and cooperation and investment attraction in emerging and high-tech industries where India has strengths and Vietnam has demand, including hydrogen and green steel.
He also called for greater cultural and tourism exchanges and stronger connections to mobilize human resources.
Le Minh Hung asked the embassy to continue paying attention to Party building and internal political protection.
He expressed confidence that the embassy would build on its traditions, remain proactive and creative, and show initiative in fulfilling its responsibilities and achieving breakthroughs that contribute to making the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and India deeper, more substantive and more effective.
