At the invitations of Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Hung will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation on official visits to Laos and Cambodia from Oct. 8-10.

The trips will mark Hung's first visits to Laos and Cambodia in his capacity as head of the Vietnamese government.

Notably, his visit to Laos comes shortly after the country's National Assembly completed the appointment of its prime minister.

The visit takes place as the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos continue to be firmly strengthened, with ties growing deeper across all fields.

In late 2025, the two countries agreed to elevate their relationship with a new framework of "great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion," reflecting a new strategic vision for the current stage of development.

Meetings and exchanges between senior leaders of the two countries have reaffirmed their consistent commitment to giving each other the highest priority in their respective foreign policies. Both sides have continued to nurture the unique Vietnam-Laos relationship, making it increasingly substantive, effective and deeply rooted, while taking concrete steps to put the concept of "strategic cohesion" into practice.

Bilateral trade reached nearly $3 billion in 2025, up 32.7% from 2024. The two countries are aiming to increase trade to $5-10 billion over the next few years.

Hung's visit to Cambodia comes as the two countries prepare to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, a significant milestone in the history of Vietnam-Cambodia ties. The visit is expected to further strengthen political trust and generate new momentum for deeper, more substantive and effective cooperation across all fields.

Despite the many ups and downs of history, Vietnam-Cambodia relations have been built and nurtured on a foundation of friendship, solidarity, mutual assistance and shared strategic interests, becoming a valuable asset for both nations.

Two-way trade reached $11.33 billion in 2025, an increase of more than 11.7% from 2024. Vietnam is currently Cambodia's third-largest trading partner overall and its largest trading partner within ASEAN.

The two countries are working closely toward their goal of bringing bilateral trade to $20 billion as soon as possible.
