VietNamNet Bridge – Five in 10 Vietnamese use smartphones to shop, with thegrowth rate of online shopping in Vietnam 16.8% last year, the 3rd highest in the Asia – Pacific region.

According to a new survey published by MasterCard,  51.7% of smartphone users in Vietnam shopped with their mobile devices, reaching a growth rate of 16.8%.

Among the products purchased online, clothing and fashion accessories took the lead with 32%. Gifts and toys accounted for 24.9%. Mobile applications accounted for 21.8%.

The survey results are based on interviews carried out from October to December 2015 with the participation of 8,500 people aged 18-64 in 14 countries in Asia - Pacific.

As the platform for payments via mobile devices, electronic wallet also rapidly developed in the last two years, although the mobile banking applications (31.8%) were still widely used. In Asia - Pacific, one in five people use electronic wallets, up two times compared to two years ago.

China, India, and Singapore use electronic wallets the most in the region.
