At the invitation of US President Donald Trump, General Secretary To Lam will lead a Vietnamese delegation to attend the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council in Washington DC on February 19 as a founding member.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung said the Party chief, together with other Council members, will discuss and define the tasks the Council will undertake to implement a peace plan for the Gaza region in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2830.

The attendance of Vietnam’s top leader underscores the country’s support and willingness to engage more actively in the international community’s collective efforts for peace and development.

It also concretizes the cooperation on international issues within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US.

Having endured numerous devastating wars, Vietnam deeply understands the value of peace, reconciliation and post-conflict reconstruction.

The 14th National Party Congress affirmed that Vietnam would “participate more proactively and responsibly in addressing common international and regional issues.”

According to Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung, Vietnam’s role as a founding member of the Peace Council reflects that spirit and represents the consistent implementation of the Party’s foreign policy line, while contributing to enhancing the country’s prestige and image.

At the same time, it offers Vietnam an opportunity to leverage its experience and capabilities, to learn from partners and to integrate more deeply through coordination in fulfilling shared missions.

As a founding member, Vietnam hopes to work alongside other members to promote the Council’s role in advancing peace and reconstruction in Gaza in accordance with the United Nations Security Council’s resolution, ensuring the legitimate interests of the parties involved, especially the Palestinian people, in line with international law and the United Nations Charter.

“Vietnam is not yet a wealthy country, but we have practical experience in overcoming the consequences of war,” the ambassador added.

Vietnam stands ready to contribute human and material resources, within its capacity, to reconstruction efforts, socio-economic recovery and the stabilization of people’s lives in Gaza.

Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized that the trip takes place within a multilateral framework but also carries significant implications for Vietnam - US bilateral relations.

President Donald Trump personally invited Party General Secretary To Lam to join the Council as a founding member and to attend its inaugural meeting.

The Party chief’s participation represents support for broader peace efforts and the specific initiative to rebuild Gaza, while further deepening cooperation between the two countries in addressing regional and global issues in line with the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The ambassador expressed confidence that the visit will help consolidate political trust, expand substantive cooperation and create fresh momentum for Vietnam - US relations in the time ahead.
