Viettel's engineers introduces Make in Vietnam's Private 5G at 2024 MWC.

"This is the first time the 5G device ecosystem owned by Viettel has provided the 5G SA internet access service, the most modern one, right at MWC. 5G SA will be deployed this year in Vietnam," said Viettel’s CTO Le Ba Tan.

Viettel has attended the annual largest event of the mobile industry for seven years, and broadcasting 5G network at its stall, the sole Vietnamese representative at the event.

At a working session with Viettel, Global System for Mobile Communications Association’s representative – Henry Calvert – praised Viettel’s 5G deployment plan in 2024, especially the priority in deploying 5G SA.

Most of the 5G networks in the world are non-standalone (NSA), using 5G wireless network device to communicate signs with terminals, but the deployment is on the existing 4G LTE network. 5G NSA doesn’t have characteristics of a true 5G SA, or true 5G with 5G wireless network and 5G core network, such as deploying tens of thousands of devices within a narrow sphere and latency of less than 5 milliseconds.

At MWC 2024, Viettel introduced its 5G wireless network device in accordance with Open-RAN standards, 5G core network and 5G chipset fully owned by Viettel.

Viettel is now the only mobile network operator in the world that manufactures telecommunications devices.

Intel’s Dan Rodriguez commented that Viettel has gained wonderful achievements with groundbreaking technologies in both using Open-RAN and 5G SA.

Francis Chi Fai Chung from Tierone OSS said he was impressed by Viettel’s capability of mastering hardware device used in the network.

Nguyen Chi Linh, deputy director of Broadband Telecommunications Center belonging to Viettel High Tech, said that fully mastering the 5G ecosystem, from wireless network to core network serving a national public network, Viettel believes that it could generate Private 5G, a local application to satisfy clients-businesses.

Private 5G, or ‘Network in a box’, which means a miniature network, provides Viettel 5G SA at MWC.

Private 5G network is called ‘network in a box’ because just a box weighing 40 kilograms is enough to contain a core network, access network and 5G wireless network, according to Linh.

With the system, businesses can create high-speed and low-latency network connections to run manufacturing equipment such as robots, AI cameras and product examining cameras.

Viettel is now working with logistics partners and manufacturers to continue to deploy Private 5G systems in Vietnam.
