The Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee has issued amended regulations for the 2026 Golden Globe Science and Technology Award. The revisions are intended to align with Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, while also implementing the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 21 on the national list of strategic technologies.
This year’s framework introduces five key changes.
The award has comprehensively restructured its evaluation categories to align with Vietnam’s 10 strategic technology groups. These include digital technologies; next-generation mobile networks, cybersecurity and quantum technologies; robotics and automation; biomedicine, pharmaceuticals and applied biology; advanced energy and materials; semiconductors; environment and sustainable development; marine, ocean and underground technologies; aviation and space; and high-speed and urban rail systems.
The new evaluation criteria place particular emphasis on technological mastery, practical application, innovation capacity, commercialization potential and socio-economic impact.
The revised regulations also encourage nominations of individuals who are not only scientists and inventors but also key leaders of science and technology organizations or enterprises operating in strategic technology sectors.
In addition, the new rules raise standards for scientific integrity, transparency, research ethics and social responsibility. Candidates must demonstrate strict compliance with ethical standards, academic honesty, intellectual property protection requirements and high-quality scientific publications throughout the evaluation process.
The responsibilities of award recipients after receiving the honor have also been clearly defined. Winners must commit to at least three years of engagement in knowledge-sharing activities, inspiring young people, supporting science and technology startups and helping develop the next generation of scientists.
Finally, the entire application, submission and evaluation process will be digitized and conducted through an online platform. Applicants will use a unified system designed to ensure transparency, openness and convenience.
Required application materials include a nomination letter, a record of achievements, evidence of practical research outcomes and a summary report of a representative technological solution.
The Golden Globe Award 2026 continues to be open to Vietnamese citizens under the age of 35 who are studying or working in Vietnam or abroad. No more than 10 individuals will be honored each year.
Award recipients will receive a certificate of merit from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, a certificate from the Ministry of Science and Technology, a commemorative trophy and a cash prize.
Outstanding young scientists will also be entered into the National Young Talent Database and may be nominated for participation in international forums and cooperation programs organized by the Youth Union and relevant ministries and agencies.
The award is expected to serve as an important mechanism for identifying, honoring and nurturing high-quality human resources, supporting Vietnam’s goal of achieving greater technological self-reliance in the new era.
