On May 24, Nguyen Thien Van, Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee, announced that the province had officially approved the proposal for the 2026 Dak Lak Durian Festival under the theme “Dak Lak Durian - Connecting Beyond Borders.”
According to the plan, the festival will take place from August 15 to September 2, 2026 across Buon Ma Thuot Ward, Krong Pak Commune, Cu M’gar Commune, Ea Knuiec Commune, Tuy Hoa Ward and several major durian-growing areas throughout Dak Lak Province.
One of the festival’s most anticipated highlights will be a parade of around 500 pickup trucks promoting Dak Lak durians while simultaneously attempting to establish a Guinness World Record.
The convoy will depart from the center of Krong Pak Commune and travel toward Vo Nguyen Giap Boulevard in Tan Lap Ward. The vehicles will carry decorative models of durian orchards, flowers and durian fruits. Following the record-setting event, organizers will host live durian-opening demonstrations for visitors and residents to enjoy fresh durian on-site.
The 2026 Dak Lak Durian Festival will also feature an art photography exhibition titled “Queen of the Green Highlands,” showcasing the beauty of durian orchards, the lives of local farmers and processed products made from the region’s signature fruit.
A conference on “The Sustainable Durian Ecosystem” is expected to gather around 500 delegates, businesses and importers from Vietnam and abroad to discuss solutions for the sustainable development of the durian industry.
In addition, the festival will include various activities honoring durian growers and promoting local products.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on the evening of August 15 at March 10 Square in Buon Ma Thuot Ward, with approximately 2,000 domestic and international guests expected to attend.
This will mark the first time Dak Lak Province has organized a province-level festival dedicated entirely to the durian industry. Local authorities hope the event will boost exports, stimulate tourism and strengthen the international brand identity of Dak Lak durians.
The festival is expected to attract around 300,000 visitors.
According to official statistics, Dak Lak had nearly 45,000 hectares of durian plantations in 2025, producing about 390,000 tons and generating approximately $1.1 billion in export revenue.
