Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Administration has reported that in the four days leading up to Tet, the country's three largest airports alone welcomed over 1.1 million passengers.
Specifically, Tan Son Nhat International Airport handled nearly 3,900 take-offs and landings, approximately 592,000 passengers, and about 5,800 tons of cargo. This represents an increase of 9.7% in flight movements, 12.0% in passenger numbers, and 1.7% in cargo compared to the same period in 2024.
Noi Bai International Airport saw over 2,300 take-offs and landings, about 385,000 passengers, and more than 8,700 tons of cargo. These figures reflect a 10.9% increase in flight movements, 18.5% in passengers, and 15.3% in cargo from last year.
Da Nang International Airport recorded 988 take-offs and landings, serving more than 155,700 passengers and 217 tons of cargo. The respective increases were 4.8% in flights, 14.7% in passengers, and 3.5% in cargo compared to 2024.
With these numbers combined, the three largest airports alone saw over 1.1 million passengers during the four-day period.
As the peak period of Tet approaches, the Civil Aviation Administration has acknowledged that passenger traffic will significantly increase, placing considerable pressure on airport infrastructure and the quality of passenger services.
Measures to maintain service quality
The Civil Aviation Administration also warned that delays and flight cancellations are inevitable during the busy period. To improve service quality, the authority has instructed all Vietnamese airlines and ground handling companies to enhance their flight scheduling operations, ensuring compliance with confirmed slots to minimize delays and cancellations.
Additionally, it has urged airlines to maintain a regular presence of staff at check-in counters, security areas, and baggage claim zones to assist passengers, resolve complaints, and ensure security and order within the airports.
Airlines are also expected to work closely with ground service units to forecast flight volumes, prepare accordingly, and manage passenger services efficiently during potential delays and cancellations.
Vietnam Airlines and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation have been asked to allocate maximum resources and equipment during the peak period, particularly at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai International Airports, to optimize air traffic management.
Furthermore, airport authorities have been instructed to monitor and enforce regulations related to the transport of passengers during cancellations, long delays, or flight rejections, ensuring passengers are informed and protected.
