The T-90S and T-90SK tanks, among the most advanced in Vietnam’s arsenal, were a highlight of the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition. Manufactured by Russia’s Uralvagonzavod Corporation, these tanks are known for their exceptional firepower, mobility, and state-of-the-art defense systems.
Nicknamed the “flying tank” for its agility and precision, the T-90S is equipped with advanced systems that allow it to fire accurately even at high speeds.
Its main armament is the 125mm 2A46M5 smoothbore gun, enhanced by a state-of-the-art ballistic computer, thermal imaging, and automatic target tracking systems. The gun can fire 7-8 rounds per minute and is compatible with a variety of powerful munitions.
The T-90S also features the 9M119M Refleks anti-tank guided missile system, capable of penetrating up to 950mm of reinforced armor at a range of up to 4,000 meters. For additional firepower, it includes a coaxial 7.62mm PKT machine gun and a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun mounted on the turret.
The T-90S is powered by a 1,000-horsepower engine, enabling it to reach a top speed of 60 km/h with a range of 550 km. Its advanced suspension system, wide tracks, and hydraulic shock absorbers allow the tank to traverse rugged terrain and overcome obstacles such as 2.85-meter-wide trenches and 1-meter-high barriers. It can also operate underwater at depths of 1.2 to 5 meters.
The tank’s durability is bolstered by composite armor, explosive reactive armor (ERA), and active protection systems, making it one of the world’s most survivable tanks.
These layers of defense protect the crew against anti-tank missiles and other threats, ensuring their safety during combat.
The T-90S is designed for optimal crew performance, with features like air conditioning, modern navigation systems, and an independent power generator.
These additions ensure that operators can function efficiently in challenging environments.
The introduction of T-90S/SK tanks into Vietnam’s armored forces marks a significant step in modernizing its military capabilities.
Displayed alongside other vehicles such as the T-62, these tanks underscore Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening its defense readiness.
