Tran Quoc Tuan previously served as head of football operations at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, in 2014, where he was directly involved in overseeing and coordinating the tournament’s football activities.

More recently, at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2023, the AFC appointed him to oversee both the men’s and women’s football competitions at the Games.

Over the years, Tran Quoc Tuan has held a number of senior positions in international football. In October 2025, FIFA officially announced his appointment as a member of its Men’s National Team Competitions Committee for the 2025–2029 term. The committee advises the FIFA Council on the strategy, organisation and management of major international competitions within the FIFA system.

At the continental level, Tran Quoc Tuan currently serves as a member of the AFC Executive Committee and chairs the AFC Competitions Committee.

The 20th Asian Games will take place in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The men’s football tournament will begin earlier, on September 15, with 15 teams divided into four groups — three groups of four teams and one of three. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Vietnam U23 have been drawn in Group C alongside Uzbekistan, the Philippines and Kuwait.

Vietnam U23 will face Kuwait on September 15, the Philippines on September 18 and Uzbekistan on September 22 in the group stage.

Vietnam U23’s official squad was announced on the afternoon of September 9. Coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his players will regroup on September 12 before departing for Japan on September 13 to begin their 2026 Asian Games campaign.
