According to the Department of Overseas Labour Management under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam has sent as many as 51,677 labourers abroad as of June, meeting nearly 60% of the yearly plan.

Currently, some labour markets overseas have gradually eased entry regulations for Vietnamese guest workers.

For example, Japan accepts Vietnamese migrant workers who have already received three doses of COVID-19 vaccines. The workers are not required to undergo a quarantine period of seven days as before.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea (RoK) government has officially removed Vietnam from the list of countries subject to tightened medical supervision.

Accordingly, Vietnamese people entering the RoK are also exempted from medical isolation for a period of seven days if they have received full basic doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

Among 51,677 workers sent abroad in the past six months, 32,053 have gone to Japan, 15,633 to Taiwan (China) and 1,209 to the RoK.

Notably, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on supporting Vietnamese labourers to work under the Australian Agriculture Visa Programme.

Meanwhile, Vietnam and Malaysia have signed an MoU on recruitment, employment and repatriation of workers between the two countries. Vietnam is also piloting a programme to send seasonal workers to the RoK.
