It also firmly recommended financial remedies and measures to address violations and deficiencies at audited agencies and organizations.

The State Audit Office recommended financial action totaling about VND80 trillion ($3.03 billion) and $4.7 million.

During the first eight months of the year, it recommended that 138 documents containing provisions inconsistent with state regulations or practical circumstances be abolished, amended or supplemented.

The audit agency also recommended that competent authorities order reviews and determine the accountability of organizations and individuals linked to violations uncovered through audits.

Auditor General Nghia said preventing and combating corruption, waste and other wrongdoing in audit activities remained a particularly important priority.

The State Audit Office has stepped up coordinated measures to prevent and combat corruption, waste and wrongdoing both within the sector and through its audit activities.

Over the first eight months, it provided 193 audit reports and related documents to the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission, investigative agencies and other competent state authorities to support investigations, inspections and supervision.

Nghia said the agency had also provided information and transferred files involving 13 cases showing signs of criminal activity to investigative agencies for further investigation and clarification.

Looking ahead to 2027, Nghia said the State Audit Office plans to focus on auditing state budget final accounts at 100% of ministries, ministerial-level agencies, central government bodies and localities.

It also plans to expand thematic, performance, environmental and information technology audits.

Greater scrutiny of major national projects

The State Audit Office also plans to increase audits of issues attracting public attention or raised by National Assembly deputies during legislative sessions.

It will focus on major Party programs and policies, particularly several strategic resolutions adopted by the Politburo.

The agency also intends to strengthen audits of key national projects, concentrating on entities and sectors considered to carry greater risks of violations, corruption, waste and other wrongdoing.

Its proposed 2027 plan includes 24 thematic audits, several of which will have a broad, sector-wide scope.

One will examine the implementation of policies and laws governing the management and use of public assets, including buildings, land and government offices, following the restructuring of administrative bodies and units across ministries, central agencies and local governments.

The State Audit Office also plans 31 audits of investment projects, including several major projects of national importance assigned by Party and state leaders.

These include the Gia Binh International Airport project, the first phase of Long Thanh International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 project.
