From December 2 to 4, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung conducted a working visit to Japan, where he met with the World Bank and senior officials from several countries to expand international cooperation and accelerate Vietnam’s digital infrastructure development.

During a meeting with World Bank Vice President Sangbu Kim, Minister Hung discussed priority areas for collaboration, including digital infrastructure and the digital economy. Both parties emphasized initiatives to enhance the sustainability, resilience, and accessibility of telecommunications infrastructure and essential digital services.

These discussions coincided with the inaugural International Digital Forum, hosted by the World Bank for Asian and Eastern European nations. Participants stressed that digital resilience is increasingly critical, especially in regions vulnerable to natural disasters and climate change. Minister Hung noted that bridging the digital divide is not only about accessibility but also about ensuring the sustainability and robustness of data centers and telecommunications infrastructure.

In a separate meeting with Japan’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Imagawa Takuo, the two sides agreed to prioritize the development of 5G networks based on O-RAN standards, explore post-5G and 6G technologies, and advance low-earth orbit satellite systems. They also discussed AI development, postal logistics regulations, and legal frameworks for emerging technologies.

Minister Hung praised Japan’s “Hiroshima AI Process,” a global initiative to foster AI cooperation, and confirmed Vietnam’s participation in its Friends Group, which now includes 55 member nations.

Minister Hung’s mission established a framework for deeper collaboration, leveraging global expertise and resources to accelerate Vietnam’s digital transformation. Key objectives include creating large-capacity, ultra-broadband, sustainable, and intelligent digital infrastructure.

Vietnam’s digital vision focuses on building a "green," open, and secure network. The country’s partnerships with international organizations like the World Bank and Japan signify its commitment to advancing this agenda through innovative and sustainable solutions.
