Vietnam finished in fourth position at the ASEAN University Games, following the final day of competition, yesterday in Singapore.

Vietnam earned 23 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze medals, with most of the titles won from track-and-field competitions.

Nguyen Thi Oanh won her gold in the women’s 1,500m event, with a time of 4min 34.10sec.

Vietnam also finished first in the women’s 4x400m and men’s 10,000m by Le Van Thao.

Meanwhile Tran Hue Hoa came in second in the women’s long jump event.

On Saturday, Vietnamese athletes received three golds in the men’s and women’s 400m, women’s high jump and two bronzes in the men’s and women’s high jump.

They also pocketed a gold medal in the women’s team table tennis competition; one gold, two silvers and one bronze in the men’s pencak silat; and three golds in canoeing events.

Thailand is on top of the medal tally with 48 gold, 32 silver and 31 bronze medals. They are followed by Indonesia, who won 33 golds and Malaysia with 25.

The closing ceremony will be held today at National University of Singapore’s stadium.
