Vietnamese chess players have scored second round wins over Iraqi and International Chess Committee of the Deaf (ICCD) teams at the ongoing 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia.

In this round, the Vietnam’s male team with Le Quang Liem, Tran Tuan Minh, Nguyen Anh Khoi, and Dao Thien Hai beat Iraqi rivals 2.5-1.5.

Grandmaster Le Quang Liem (Elo 2715) gained victory over Al Ali Hussein (Elo 2273) while Tuan Minh, Anh Khoi, and Thien Hai were held to a draw with their opponents.

The second consecutive victory helped take the Vietnam male team to the 21st place with 6.5 points. Their next rivals in the third round are chess players from Bangladesh.

The Vietnam female team had an impressive performance as they defeated ICCD team 4-0.

After two rounds of the competition, the female team is now standing at the 3rd position with 8 points. They will meet Lithuania in the third round.
