The runners-up landed at 6 pm on January 17 after a two-hour flight from Thailand where they lost 1-0 to Thailand in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2022 final on January 16.

Thailand’s victory left them 3-2 winners on aggregate, successfully defending their championship title. The first leg took place at Vietnam’s My Dinh Stadium and ended in a 2-2 draw.

Head coach Park Hang Seo and his players were warmly welcomed home with lots of flowers at the airport.

While the players were enthusiastically talking and taking photos with their fans, coach Park looked a bit sad. He waved his hands to the fans and quickly left by car.

The South Korean coach failed to achieve his dream of winning the AFF Cup trophy for Vietnam before saying goodbye to local football. He will leave the country at the end of this month after five years.

When announcing his decision with the Vietnam Football Federation last October, he said, "I will always remember my five-year journey with Vietnamese football. It was a memorable and exciting journey. I'm grateful for all the love that Vietnam has given me."
