Security is being tightened in Hanoi at an unseen level as US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will have a second one-on-one meeting on February 27-28.

Police cars, fire-fighting vehicles and security forces have been deployed to target buildings and major roads, Zing reported.

Meanwhile, at the Meliá and JW Marriott hotels where North Korean and US personnel are staying, layers of armed police have been in place. The army is also joining, with bomb detectors and special troops seen at hotels and high-rise buildings.

The Ministries of Public Security and National Defense have worked closely to roll out security plans for the summit. Vietnamese forces have also cooperated with the US and North Korean sides to secure their delegations, said Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung at a press meeting on Monday.

Advance personnel of both the US and North Korea have highly valued Vietnam’s preparations in a period of just 10 days after the official confirmation of the summit, Trung added.  

Hanoi has improvised all the possible situations and counts with sufficient personnel and equipment to deal with them, said Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, noting that security is the top priority for this transcendent event.  

Hanoi’s police forces held a demonstration on Monday morning with the participation of thousands of policemen and modern equipment and special vehicles.

At the event, Nguyen Anh Tuan, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Public Security, briefed on plans to secure the venue of the Trump-Kim summit, hotels where the special guests will be staying and other locations. Fire-fighting and rescue plans have also been considered.
