Vietnam’s men’s national team are the favourites of many football fans anticipating a surprise winner of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup 2018 after their strong performances at the AFC U23 Championships and Asian Games (ASIAD).
Ten years ago, a header by striker Cong Vinh secured a first ever trophy for Vietnam in the AFF Cup. Millions of football fans still long for the day that the nation can lift another championship title.
Let’s take a look at the Vietnamese team’s schedule. The men’s national football team will meet in Hanoi on October 11. They will then fly to the Republic of Korea for a training camp in Paju National Football Center from October 13-28, where they will play 3 friendly matches.
At the AFF Cup 2018, the Vietnamese team is in Group A. Vietnam will face Laos in their first match on November 8.
Vietnam will next play Malaysia on November 16. Four days later (November 20) the national team will play Myanmar.
On November 24, Vietnam will play Cambodia.
The first semi-final match will take place on December 1, with Group A’s second placed team facing the winners of Group B.
The winners of Group A will meet the runners up of Group B one day later.
On December 5, the winners of Group B will play the second leg of their semi-final match against the runners up of Group A.
The following day, the runners up of Group B will play the second leg of their semi-final match against the winners of Group A.
The first leg of the final will be played on December 11 between the winner of the first semi-final match and the winner of the second semi-final match.
The second leg of the final match will get underway on December 15 between the winner of the first semi-final match and the winner of the second semi-final match.
