Vietnam started the match against Australia with 4-5-1 formation to enhance its defence style. The team opened the score with Tuyet Dung’s goal at the 17th minute.
However, the Australian teams scored two goals before the end of the first half due to errors in Vietnam’s defensive line.
In the second half, Vietnam launched continuous attacks and head coach Mai Duc Chung made several player changes with the hope of narrowing the gap. Nevertheless, Australia’s U20 made two more goals at the 65th and 76th minute to raise the score to 4-1.
The Vietnamese squad pulled off its second goal thanks to Tuyet Dung’s successful penalty kick at the 88th minute.
Meanwhile, Thailand defeated Myanmar 3-1 to enter the final.
The third place play-off between Vietnam and Myanmar is scheduled at 4:00 pm on July 13. Earlier, the team beat their Myanmar rivals 4-3 in preliminary round. The final will take place at 7:00 pm the same day.
