Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long insisted on publicizing businesses which sell unsafe food, at a ceremony of the food safety action month launched by the Hanoi People’s Committee on April 12.

Mr. Long ordered related agencies in Hanoi to carry out practical deeds to respond to people’s concern on food safety.

These activities include inspection to find out businesses, individuals that sell unsafe food to issue harsh penalties on them and publicize their names and addresses so that people can boycott these stores.

In addition, related agency inspectors should provide people with address of business and stores which sell food safety so that people can buy food there.

In the action month lasting from April 15 to May 15 themed “Continuing manufacturing and selling safe vegetables and meat”, the inter-department steering boards on food safety in Hanoi set up 6 inspection teams to pay unscheduled visits to food manufacturers, processing food companies.

Leaders of Hanoi People’s Committee ordered their counterparts in 30 districts to increase inspection of the food safety and hygiene in the area under their jurisdiction.

Deputy heads of people’s committee in districts and communes must come to food businesses and processing companies to inspect.

It is estimated that Hanoi has around 58,000 food business and companies.

On the occasion, Hanoi also launched the Action Year for food safety in agriculture aiming to curb selling and using banned substances, preservatives and pesticides in husbandry and farming.
