Vietnam will do its utmost to preserve, protect and nurture the solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong has said.

Hosting a reception for visiting Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen in Hanoi on December 7, the leader said that the guest’s official visit to Vietnam is a vivid illustration of the solidarity and traditional friendship between the two nations.
Congratulating Cambodia on its successful sixth National Assembly election, the Vietnamese leader expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Cambodian National Assembly and Royal Government, Cambodia will overcome challenges to reap more achievements to become a prosperous nation.
He said that he rejoiced at the thriving relations between the two Parties, States and peoples which have been developed in a practical and effective manner. Also, the leader reaffirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, diversification and multilateralisation of international relations as well as the country’s consistent policy of not joining any military alliance, not siding with any country to act against a third country, and not allowing any country to establish a military base in Vietnam’s territory.
Lauding the outcomes of the talks between PM Phuc and his Cambodian counterpart, he asked the two PMs to order competent branches and ministries to implement the documents signed. The two sides should join hands to soon complete documents legalising the 84 percent of the border demarcation and marker planting-related work in 2019 with a view to building a shared borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, he stressed.
The Cambodian PM underlined the robust ties of the two Parties, States and peoples in the past four decades, bringing benefits to the people of each nation as well as for regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and development.
He thanked Vietnam for its support for Cambodia during the national liberation, struggle against the genocidal regime, and national construction cause.
Hun Sen affirmed that the Cambodian Government will work to completely settle issues on the shared land border line, thus preventing opposition forces from taking advantage of the issues against the bilateral relations.
Cambodia does not need and Cambodian constitution does not allow the establishment of foreign military bases in its territory, he stressed.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese leader extend his regards and wishes for good health to Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni and his mother Monineath Sihanouk, saying he is delighted to welcome King Norodom Sihamoni to Vietnam in the coming time.

Chairwoman Ngan said PM Hun Sen’s official visit is a landmark in bilateral relations and also shows the Cambodian leader’s special sentiment towards the traditional friendship between the two countries.
Informing Ngan about his country’s recent socio-economic development and the results of the 6th-tenure NA election, Hun Sen said in this tenure, the Cambodian Government will make efforts to solve border-related issues with neighbouring countries, including Vietnam.
Chairwoman Ngan emphasised that Vietnam always supports and is delighted at Cambodia’s development achievements. She also congratulated the country on the successful general election.
She voiced her belief that under the leadership of the Cambodian Senate, NA and Royal Government with the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) being the core, the country will sustain its growth and stability, has an increasing role and stature in the region and the world, and obtain even greater accomplishments in national construction.
Applauding the outcomes of the talks between PMs Hun Sen and Nguyen Xuan Phuc, including the signing of five cooperation documents, Ngan affirmed that the Vietnamese NA will work closely with the Cambodian NA and Senate to supervise the realisation of bilateral agreements and promote cooperation between the two Governments, peoples and parliaments in both bilateral and multilateral aspects.
At the meeting, the leaders noted with satisfaction the progress in their countries’ connections. They underlined the necessity of communications to help people, especially younger generations, in the two countries fully understand and continue treasuring the time-tested solidarity and friendship.
Chairwoman Ngan highly valued PM Hun Sen’s attention to issues relevant to Vietnamese-Cambodians, asking him to continue directing support for them so that the community can contribute to Cambodia’s development and the bilateral friendship.

The Cambodian PM had a working visit to Vietnam from December 6-8.
At the meeting, Chairman of the VCFA Vu Mao briefed his guest on the association’s activities over the years.
He noted that the VCFA’s chapters have worked to promote the implementation of friendship and cooperation activities between the two countries, especially a friendship programme, which has devised various measures to support disadvantaged Cambodian students who are studying in Vietnam.
The VCFA has closely joined hands with the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association in boosting people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, he added.
For his part, Cambodian PM Hun Sen thanked the support of the VCFA for Cambodian students in Vietnam.
He said that the sentiment of Vietnamese people is a source of encouragement for the young Cambodian generation, and activities like the friendship programme have contributed to promoting the bilateral friendship in the coming time.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen concluded his official visit to Vietnam from December 6 to 8 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc. During the trip, PM Hun Sen had talks with PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. He had a meeting with representatives of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association and attended a business forum of the two countries. He also laid a wreath at the Monument to War Heroes and Martyrs and paid tribute to late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum in Hanoi. At the meetings, the two sides highlighted that Vietnam and Cambodia boast friendly neighbourliness and traditional cooperation and stood side by side in the struggles for national independence. This relationship is a precious common asset of the two peoples, so it needs to be treasured and developed unceasingly for the sake of future generations. They agreed to hold activities in both countries to mark the 40th anniversary of the victory over the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime (January 7, 1979) so as to educate young Vietnamese and Cambodians on their countries’ traditions. The leaders also agreed on major orientations for the promotion of bilateral ties under the motto “sound neigbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability”. They were unanimous in further enhancing defence-security cooperation to firmly safeguard each country’s peace, security and stability, persisting in the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use a country’s territory to harm the other’s security, and coordinating closely to fight crimes and ensure security along the whole shared borderline. The two sides will step up collaboration in education, training, capacity building, agro-forestry-fisheries, culture – arts, and people-to-people exchange. They will also keep dealing with outstanding problems well, according to the leaders. Vietnam and Cambodia will work towards the signing of two documents to officially legalising the completion of 84 percent of the border demarcation and border marker planting in 2019, thereby helping build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development. The countries will also increase coordination to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese-Cambodians’ lives and ensure their legal status. Regarding regional and international matters, both sides shared the view on the importance of maintaining peace, security and stability in the region. In the immediate future, they will work closely together in 2020 when Vietnam will hold the ASEAN Chair and Cambodia will host the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit. On this occasion, PMs Hun Sen and Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a joint press conference and witnessed the signing of five cooperation documents, namely a government-level MoU on the Vietnam-Cambodia transport cooperation strategy for 2018-2025 with a vision to 2030; MoUs on the completion of negotiations on a border trade agreement and educational cooperation; the minutes on the completion of 84 percent of the border demarcation and marker planting work in the field and future plans for the work; and an agreement on the implementation of a project using Vietnam’s non-refundable aid for Cambodia to build some items in the community-based voluntary drug detoxification centre project in Preah Sihanouk province. |
