Vietnam’s U21 women’s volleyball team stunned the 2025 FIVB U21 Women’s World Championship by defeating Canada and Serbia, advancing to the top 16 with a remarkable set win of 25-5.
The team continued its impressive run by beating U21 Canada 3-1, securing a spot among the world’s 16 strongest teams. The highlight came in the fourth set, which ended 25-5 - the largest margin of victory recorded so far in the tournament.
Vietnam started strong, taking the first set 25-19 with solid defense and effective wing attacks. Canada fought back in the second set, edging out a 26-24 win. In the third set, stellar performances from Dang Hong, Bich Hue, and Quynh Huong restored Vietnam’s lead at 25-19.
In the fourth, Vietnam’s blocking wall and a string of service aces left the North American side completely overwhelmed. The team scored 13 consecutive points, closing the match in historic fashion and gaining a huge psychological boost ahead of the round of 16.
Making their debut at the tournament as the world’s No. 25-ranked team, coach Nguyen Trong Linh’s squad had already shocked Serbia, ranked No. 9. Now second in Group A behind Argentina, Dang Thi Hong and her teammates will face Argentina and Puerto Rico to determine their final standing before heading into the knockout stage, with hopes of delivering more surprises.
