Success at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup propelled many of Vietnam’s young players into the spotlight, opening significant opportunities in their careers. Yet once the glow of continental glory begins to fade, a far harsher reality awaits: maintaining form, securing positions at club level and resisting the temptations that come with sudden fame.

In goal, Tran Trung Kien of HAGL and Cao Van Binh of SLNA stand out as positive examples. Both have quickly established themselves as first-choice keepers at their respective clubs, strengthening their confidence while accumulating valuable top-flight experience.

Still, the goalkeeper’s role always carries inherent risk, where a single mistake can undo months of hard work.

In defense, Pham Ly Duc, Vo Anh Quan and Nguyen Nhat Minh have shown clear development, earning growing trust in the V-League.

By contrast, center-back Nguyen Hieu Minh faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, a situation mirrored by Nguyen Thai Son, a new signing for Ninh Binh. Such forced breaks affect not only physical condition but also test mental resilience, demanding patience and unwavering determination.

In midfield, Le Van Thuan, Nguyen Xuan Bac, Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong, Viktor Le, Nguyen Phi Hoang, Pham Minh Phuc and the youngest, Le Phat, are learning to balance heightened public expectations with steady development. Experience shows that many promising youngsters have stalled under pressure to “shine immediately” after a major tournament.

Meanwhile, Khuat Van Khang and Nguyen Cong Phuong face intense competition at The Cong Viettel, where quality foreign signings and seasoned veterans make a starting berth a luxury.

Up front, Nguyen Quoc Viet of Ninh Binh, Nguyen Thanh Nhan of PVF-CAND and Nguyen Ngoc My of Thanh Hoa continue to offer optimism as they gradually cement their roles.

Nguyen Dinh Bac, however, stands as a special case. After a remarkable AFC U23 Asian Cup campaign marked by symbolic goals and historic individual honors, the forward became a prized acquisition for Hanoi Police FC.

Under coach Mano Polking, Dinh Bac is not only a fresh tactical option in the V-League but also a key figure in the club’s ambitions on the continental stage.

Beyond professional matters, life off the pitch presents its own challenges. Social media, injuries, family matters and personal relationships can all directly influence performance.

After the Asian spotlight, it is composure, discipline and self-control that will ultimately decide who advances and who is left behind in the demanding journey of professional football.
