The Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the Viet Nam National University (VNU), Hanoi have subjects among the top 600 in the world, according a UK-based study.

Among the subjects of HUST ranked in the top 400-550 are mechanics engineering, aviation and manufacturing, computer science and information systems.
Meanwhile, subjects at the VNU, Hà Nội which were ranked top 500-600 are physics and astronomy and mechanical engineering.
The rankings were published by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University which collected data from 200 education entities in 153 countries last year.
HUST principal Prof. Trần Văn Tớp told Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) Newspaper: “The subjects were very popular with high tuition fees but always attracted a lot of students because of training quality and job opportunities.”
This was the first time HUST took part in the survey.
The electric and electronic techniques subject ranked 401ST to 450th group while the subject of mechanics engineering, aviation and manufacturing was at 451st of top 500 and computer science and information system was at 501st of 550 group.
The rankings placed the VNU’s Physics and Astronomy department at 501st in the world, the highest achieved.
Last year only two Vietnamese universities were among the top 1,000 in the world.
