The eighth National Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Veterans Association officially opened on June 17. Party General Secretary and State President To Lam attended the event and delivered a keynote address.
The congress elected 88 members to the association's eighth-term Central Executive Committee for the 2026-2031 period.
With 100% support from delegates, Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong was re-elected chairman of the association.

The vice chairmen re-elected for the new term are Lieutenant General Khuat Viet Dung, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Major General Nguyen Minh Hoang and businessman Le Van Kiem.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected Executive Committee, Be Xuan Truong said the result was both an honor and a significant responsibility for the association as it continues contributing to national development.
Commitment to strengthening the association
Be Xuan Truong stressed that every member of the new Executive Committee must continue improving their professional capacity, knowledge and leadership skills in order to fulfill the tasks assigned by the congress.
He said the new Executive Committee would maintain unity in both vision and action, uphold democratic centralism, promote self-criticism and constructive criticism, and continue renewing the association's methods of operation and leadership.
The committee will focus on building a clean, strong and effective Vietnam Veterans Association capable of fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted by the Party, the State and the people.
Long military and public service career
Be Xuan Truong served as a member of the Party Central Committee during the 11th and 12th tenures. He is a former Deputy Minister of National Defence and served as a deputy of the National Assembly during the 12th, 13th and 16th legislatures.
He spent many years serving in Military Region 1 before being appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army in 2014. In 2015, he was appointed Deputy Minister of National Defence and officially retired at the end of 2021.
In late 2022, he became chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association.
He currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and central mass organizations, and as vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
