Vietnam tops the 3rd Vinh Long International Table Tennis, which wrapped up on July 1 in the southern province of Vinh Long, with three gold medals in the events of men’s doubles, women’s doubles and men’s singles.

The Vietnamese national men’s and women’s teams, respectively, championed the men’s double and the women’s double events, followed by Shanghai (China) who came second at both events.

Indonesia grabbed a bronze at the men’s doubles while Hai Duong, a provincial team from Vietnam, ranked third at the women’s doubles.

Nguyen Trung Kien of the Vietnamese national team took the trophy in the men’s single event while Ni Zheqing from Shanghai (China) won the women’s singles.

The Vinh Long International Table Tennis Tournament opened on June 29, bringing together 138 players from four China’s Shanghai, Indonesia, Thailand and the host Vietnam.

The three-day tournament was co-organised by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and provincial Vinh Long Table Tennis Federation. It was the third year in a row the province has hosted the tournament, according to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lu Quang Ngoi.

The event is a warm-up for the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Indonesia in August.-VNA
