Vietnamese Muaythai boxers won two gold medals, two silver medals  and six bronze medals at the 2016 International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) Youth World Championship, which wrapped up in Thailand on September 1.

Quach Thi Hoai (red jersey) defeated Merve Saglam of Turkey to win a gold medal.

Quach Thi Hoai defeated Merve Saglam of Turkey in the women’s 54kg contest, fought in the Thai capital city of Bangkok, to win a gold medal. Also, Nguyen Thi Ly beat Russian Olga Artiukh in the final match to bring home another gold medal.

Earlier, Nguyen Thi Anh faced Thailand’s Waritsana Tongma in the women’s 42kg final match, losing the bout, but earning a silver medal.

Additionally, Tran Thi Lua lost to Canada’s Foden Savannah during the finals of the women’s 57kg to win a silver medal.

Muaythai is a combat sport, originating in Thailand, which includes stand-up striking, along with various clinching techniques.

It also features striking to the shins, known as “the art of eight limbs.”

Muaythai is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins, and is associated with having superior physical preparation to assure that a full-contact fighter competes efficiently.
