
Vietnam’s athletics team secured two gold medals at the 2026 Asian Relay Championships, with both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay squads producing impressive performances in Gumi, South Korea.
In the women’s 4x400m relay final on June 21, the quartet of Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Hang, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh and Nguyen Thi Ngoc outperformed a strong field to cross the finish line first in 3 minutes 31.16 seconds.
The gold medal was not only a source of pride for Quach Thi Lan and her teammates but also provided a significant confidence boost ahead of this year’s Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Japan in September.
Vietnam’s athletics team continued its success later in the competition with another gold medal in the men’s 4x400m relay.
The quartet of Le Ngoc Phuc, Tran Dinh Son, Vu Ngoc Khanh and Ta Ngoc Tuong delivered a superb performance to win in 3 minutes 02.60 seconds. It marked the first time Vietnam has captured an Asian title in the men’s 4x400m relay.
The result not only secured the championship but also shattered the national record. The previous Vietnamese record stood at 3 minutes 03.85 seconds.
The 2026 Asian Relay Championships were held in Gumi, South Korea, from June 20 to 21, bringing together many of Asia’s strongest athletics teams.
For Vietnam’s athletes, the tournament served as an important stepping stone in their preparations for the upcoming Asian Games, where they hope to challenge for more medals on the continental stage.
