The top seeds of Vietnam wasted little time in stamping their dominance on the match, taking the lead inside the first minute when Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung found space on the right to set up Nguyen Thi Lieu for a simple tap in.

Throughout the remainder of the match Vietnam repeatedly breached the Syrian defence, with their organization and smooth movement proving much more than the Syrians could handle.

Pham Hai Yen made it two after six minutes, followed by a penalty award for three by referee Siyu Mi.

Nguyen Thi Nguyet added a fourth, before Nugyen Thi Hoa’s heavily deflected long range effort wrong-footed the hapless Noor Jumma to make it five. Syria found themselves down by six goals at the end of three quarters.

Vietnam continued to dominate play throughout the fourth quarter with the eleventh and final goal, scored by Thi Hoa, sealing a dream start for Vietnam.

The Vietnamese team next plays Singapore on April 7, while Syria will face Myanmar in what looks to be another tough test against one of the Southeast Asian strongest teams.
