Ambassador to Italy and the Republic of Cyprus Cao Chinh Thien suggested the Vietnamese and Cyprus Governments soon negotiate the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on matters regarding Vietnamese labourers in the island country.

The agreement is expected to ensure legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese labourers in line with law and help them equally integrate into the host society. 

The ambassador made the proposal at a meeting with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiasdes following his presentation of credentials to the leader in Nicosia on November 29. 

Thien informed his host about achievements Vietnam has recorded in socio-economic development and international integration recently as well as the country’s targets and development strategies in the time ahead. 

Stressing the fruitful political ties between the two countries, the diplomat noted his wish that their all-round cooperation will further develop in the coming time. 

For his part, President Nicos Anastasiasdes expressed his delight at Vietnam’s attainments as well as developments of the traditional friendship and multi-faceted collaboration between the two countries over the past four decades. 

He promised that competent Cyprus agencies will do their utmost to help the ambassador and the Vietnamese Honorary Consul in Lemassos city successfully implement bilateral cooperation plans. 

Vietnam and Cyprus signed an agreement on visas exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders in September 2015. 

The two Governments are accelerating the signing of an agreement on political consultation and the above-said MoU. 

Vietnam and Cyprus established diplomatic ties on December 1, 1975. The bilateral relationship has developed continuously through the exchange of delegations and mutual support for relevant issues as well as at international forums.-VNA
