Viet Nam grabbed two golds on the last day of the Thailand Open Tracks and Field Championship in Bangkok on June 15. 

Vietnamese runners dominated the middle distance event, with Nguyễn Văn Lai and Nguyễn Thị Oanh winning the men’s and women’s 5,000m race, respectively.

Oanh finished her race in 16min 41.04sec. Her teammate Phạm Thị Huệ came second.

Southeast Asian Games champion Lai’s win was his second in this tournament. He timed 14:04.82, and was nine seconds faster than a Thai runner who won the second position. Lê Văn Thao of Việt Nam was at third, clocking 15:01.81.

Two days ago, Lai had bagged his first gold in the 10,000m race.

Other Vietnamese athletes too bagged medals. Trần Thị Yến Hoa (13.79m) won a silver in the women’s 100m hurdle, while Trần Huệ Hoa (12.92m) got a bronze in the women’s triple jump.

After four days of competition, Việt Nam brought home 14 gold, six silver and six bronze medals.
