The family of the Hoang Thi Van talk about their daughter's accident with the media

According to the Vietnamese Embassy in Angola, a group of robbers broke into the hostel in Huambo province, Hoang Thi Van, 29, and two other workers - one Vietnamese named Nguyen Van Vinh and one Angolan person - were living in.

Without any money to hand over, the robbers bound the three and set them on fire.

Noticing the fire, nearby Vietnamese neighbours came to the site and took the victims to hospital. Van died a day later, while Vinh and the Angolan worker are now both in the critical condition.

Both Hoang Thi Van and Nguyen Van Vinh are from the central province of Ha Tinh.

Van’s father Hoang Van Minh is poor and disabled, while his wife has been sick for many years. The couple is also taking care of Van’s five-year old daughter.

Minh said that his family can’t afford to bring his daughter’s body back home.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Angola has called on financial support from the Vietnamese Angolan community for Van’s family.
