Experts who attended a workshop on AI solutions for enterprises held in Quang Trung Software City (QTSC) on June 28 agreed that many solutions on applying AI in various fields have been created by Vietnamese tech firms, but only a few have been applied.

Tran Phuc Hong, deputy chair of VNITO Alliance, said many enterprises want to use AI and carry out digital transformation, but most don’t know where they should start.

AI can help create groundbreaking products and services, improve productivity and efficiency, and reduce production costs.

A report of McKinsey & Company showed that 1,368 surveyed enterprises worldwide said they have applied technology at least in one division.

Meanwhile, according to Pham Tuan Anh of TMA Group’s AI Center, a survey found that most Vietnamese enterprises, especially SMEs (small and medium enterprises), are not ready or reluctant to apply AI.

The difficulties lie in capital and human resources arrangement, and data synchronization as data comes from different sources, such as Google Drive and Excel.

Anh said that whenever AI is mentioned, enterprises think about high costs. They fear that investment in AI won’t bring desired effects, while the investment rate is overly high. They want AI tools to satisfy many requirements, but AI needs time to be trained to understand enterprises’ data.

Phan Tan Quoc, deputy director of KPMG Vietnam’s Innovation Program, cited a report as saying that AI has been mostly applied in science and technology, banking, retail, marketing, healthcare and education.

In science and technology, many enterprises are willing to spend on AI to increase productivity and operation efficiency.

While enterprises in the world consider AI and innovations as inevitable for sustainable development, Vietnamese enterprises fear of being replaced. Workers think that one day, AI will be able to be a tool which replaces them. They are reluctant to use AI for fear of job loss.

Edux CEO Lu The Hung noted that in many people’s thoughts, once AI is applied, workers will be dismissed. But AI can help them boost sales and increase income thanks to productivity improvement.
