Singer Hai Dang Doo has become the center of attention on social media over the past two days after a series of photos and clips surfaced online allegedly showing him partying at a hotel in Da Nang with singer Lou Hoang and several women.
As of now, neither Hai Dang Doo nor Lou Hoang has issued an official statement on social media or to the press.
Drug-related scandals involving Vietnamese celebrities have remained a recurring topic of public discussion for years.
VietNamNet looks back at some of the most high-profile Vietnamese stars who paid a heavy price for lives derailed by narcotics.
In April 2007, comedian Hiep Ga was caught by police in Hanoi’s Phuong Lien Ward illegally possessing heroin.
During the investigation, he admitted to having been addicted to drugs for around four to five months.
On July 31, 2007, the Dong Da District People’s Court sentenced him to 24 months in prison for illegal possession of narcotics.
Once a popular comedian known for the television program Weekend Gathering, Hiep Ga struggled to regain his former status after leaving prison, mostly appearing in small comedy skits, online films and entertainment venues to make a living.
On March 5, 2018, singer Chau Viet Cuong used methamphetamine with a group of friends.
While hallucinating, he stuffed more than 30 garlic cloves into a young woman’s mouth, causing her to suffocate and die.
In March 2019, the Hanoi People’s Court sentenced him to 13 years in prison for murder.
At an appeal hearing in August 2019, the High People’s Court in Hanoi reduced the sentence to 11 years.
On Jan. 5, 2025, Chau Viet Cuong was released early after serving more than six years in prison.

On June 11, 2022, police in Ward 5 of former District 8 in Ho Chi Minh City caught comedian Huu Tin and several friends using drugs in an apartment at Giai Viet residential complex.
At a trial on April 28, 2023, the District 8 People’s Court sentenced Huu Tin to seven years and six months in prison for organizing illegal drug use.
Shortly before that, on April 23, 2023, actress Le Hang - known for the television drama Please Believe Me - was prosecuted for illegally trading narcotics.

In June 2024, singer Chu Bin was arrested after police discovered him and five others using drugs at a house in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City.
That same month, model Nhikolai Dinh was prosecuted and temporarily detained by former District 1 police for illegal possession of narcotics.
At the time of his arrest, police found several packets of drugs on him and nine others, all of whom later tested positive for narcotics.

In November 2024, singer Chi Dan, whose real name is Nguyen Trung Hieu, and model-actress Andrea Aybar, known as An Tay, were prosecuted and temporarily detained by Ho Chi Minh City police for organizing illegal drug use.
Andrea Aybar also faced an additional charge of illegal possession of narcotics.
On the evening of June 23, 2025, Ho Chi Minh City police discovered renowned fashion designer Nguyen Cong Tri and Tran Phu Long illegally using drugs at a private residence in Tan Hung Ward.
A search of the property uncovered ceramic plates, rolled-up banknotes and plastic cards allegedly used for drug consumption.
On July 23, 2025, authorities officially announced the dismantling of the entire drug trafficking and usage ring linked to the case.

Nguyen Cong Tri was not only one of Vietnam’s most celebrated fashion designers but was also widely regarded as a leading figure in the country’s fashion industry.
He helped shape Vietnamese fashion’s identity on the international stage and collaborated with global stars including Beyoncé, Rihanna and Katy Perry.
His involvement in a drug scandal therefore shocked industry insiders and deeply disappointed the public.
In July 2026, rapper Binh “Gold” was arrested while under investigation for robbery.
Authorities later confirmed he tested positive for narcotics.
Prior to the arrest, traffic police had stopped his vehicle and found him positive for cannabis and ketamine while driving.
Looking back at nearly two decades of scandals - from Hiep Ga to Nguyen Cong Tri and the latest unresolved allegations - one troubling similarity stands out: most of those involved were at strong points in their careers or had already established significant reputations.
The consequences of a single fall from grace have often included shattered careers, damaged reputations and lost freedom.
