Nguyện, who is world No 9, topped Group C with 110 points after two matches. Kang Dong Koong, world No 28, was runner-up with 62 points.

Other Vietnamese representatives Trần Quyết Chiến (world No 6) only finished in third place in Group A with 41 points while Ngô Đình Nại (world No 14) was last in Group D with 26 points.

Chiến and Nại still have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals if they win their play-off matches.

The event, which has a prize purse of US$241,600, has attracted the top 24 players in the world.
