The robotic technology for training with 5 DOF robot is part of the national program on high technology development by 2020 developed by Le Anh Kiet.
According to Kiet, scientists have been carrying out R&D (research & development) on 5 DOF robots to create a product suited to Vietnamese conditions.
Foreign-made 5 DOF robots are expensive, about $20,000, or VND450 million. In case of breakdown, users can’t find spare parts to fix problems. In addition, the robot's source code system is closed, so students cannot change or reprogram it to satisfy lecturers’ requirements.

The 5 DOF robot named VNR-T1 developed by Robotic Vietnam can serve the need of robots in training at schools. It weighs 15 kilograms, can work within the radius of 610 meters and has speed of up to 600 mm per second. The maximum load is 1 kilogram and the repeating accuracy is within 0.8 mm.
According to Kiet, except for some electronic parts which still cannot be made domestically, 95 percent of the robot’s components are made in Vietnam. The high localization ratio not only allows to cut production costs, but also makes it easier to replace broken accessories and maintenance.
Kiet said the outstanding feature of the robot is the open system which allows users to develop new apps for specific purposes. The robot simulation software with 3D image runs online (at the same time with real robots) or runs offline on a computer without robots.
This is the biggest difference between VNR-T1 and foreign-made robots designed for training purposes with closed system.
VNR T1 has been provided to training establishments, including Ton Duc Thang University, HCM City Information Technology Junior College, Vietnam-Germany University, Hue Industry Junior College and King Tech Company.
The users praised the robot but said that it could produce less noise during operation and have translation software.
“The robot has stable operation with an easy-to-use controller. Users can use it manually or via computer. I appreciate the flexible operating system management program which can intervene in the system, thus better serving students’ needs for research,” said Vo Huu Hau from Ton Duc Thang University in HCM City.
