At Seagull ADC, specializing in growing melons in Hau Giang province, sensors are used to measure the humidity in poly greenhouses to provide reasonable volume of water.

When the moisture becomes high, the system automatically turns on ventilators to absorb moisture. When the temperature is high, the net covers greenhouses to prevent or ease sunlight.

At some vegetable farms in Lam Dong province, farmers just need an internet-connected tablet or smartphone and sensors to find out which fertilizer their gardens  need, which areas need watering and how much water is needed. All the operations are regulated by smart devices from a distance.

70 percent of manufacturers would apply digital transformation by 2020, and that the application would help enterprises increase their turnover by 30 percent.

Lavifood JSC has also been using smart technologies in cultivation and production to be sure that all the links of the production process, from land tilling, sowing, taking care and harvesting to processing can be managed in accordance with the best standards.

In 2017, Lavifood set up a vegetable & fruit processing factory – Tanifood – in Tay Ninh province with investment capital of VND1.5 trillion.

To ensure sufficient input materials for production, Lavifood has transferred farming technology to Tay Ninh’s people. With the app, farmers can check land humidity and water capacity in irrigation.

The app also reminds farmers of the time they need to fertilize and gives warning about insects. For Lavifood, the app helps it realize which crops can grow in certain land areas and what kind of fertilizer to use.

Expanding production, Lavifood has joined forces with ILMI, an agriculture & seafood company from South Korea, to build a farm produce processing factory in VSIP IZ in Hai Duong province, capitalized at VND1.5 trillion.

According to IBM Vietnam, the application of AI and cognitive computing to bring personalized services is growing fast. Cognitive computing is not simply AI systems capable of learning, arguing or handling natural language, but also representing human-to-technology partnership.

However, though technology brings great benefits to users, it is not easy to apply technology in production and business.

Tran Phong Lan from Seagull ADC said the company is still meeting problems when utilizing high technologies.

Seagull ADC is still working on a solution to set sensors during the fruit transportation process to control the quality of fruits after harvesting.

“If melons cannot be preserved in stable temperature during transportation to distribution points, they suffer from heat shock. We are seeking an optimal solution to avoid heat shock,” a representative of Seagull ADC said.
