Vietnamese enterprises have registered more than 200,000 .vn domain names.

Each enterprise, however, tends to register more than one .vn domain name, so the rate of enterprises owning .vn domain names is still very low in comparison with the total number of around 500,000 enterprises in Vietnam, said the VNNIC.

At a July 15 workshop on the protection of brands with .vn domain names, organised by the VNNIC in collaboration with the HCM City Department of Information and Communications, individuals and enterprises learned of how to protect brands, and to develop and promote their activities on the internet, especially with the .vn domain name.

Tran Minh Tan, Director of the VNNIC, said in order to protect their brands on the internet, enterprises must register domain names relating to their interests; and the use of the .vn domain name also helps enterprises get more attention from the community and customers at home.

At the workshop, experts and representatives of enterprises discussed many issues such as small businesses’ negligence towards the .vn domain name or raising awareness of domain names to limit negative phenomena in e-commerce.
