VietNamNet Bridge - Despite the serious shortage of workers for the IT industry, international firms have strict standards when they recruit Vietnamese IT engineers.  

Vietnam needs more IT engineers

Samsung Vietnam organized the GSAT (Global Samsung Aptitude Test) for about 4,000 engineers and university graduates, who were shortlisted from 15,000 candidates applying for jobs at the technology group.

GSAT tests candidates’ abilities in math, reasoning and visual thinking. Those who pass GSAT still had to go through the interview round before becoming official members of Samsung Vietnam.

GSAT did not examine the theoretical knowledge candidates received at schools, but focuses on finding  creativity, the ability of judgment and problem solving, and persistence when performing tasks. The scores from GSAT reflect their performance at work.

Samsung Vietnam began organizing GSAT in Vietnam in 2011 and 12,000 workers have been employed so far through the test. Successful candidates will be offered a variety of training programs during their work at Samsung which can help them seek promotions.

About 70 percent of managerial officers at Samsung Vietnam are Vietnamese. The figure would rise to 90 percent in the near future.

Le Tec Nen from FPT Group was present at the DevDay Da Nang 2018, the day of developers, organized at the Da Nang University of Technology some days ago as a panel speaker.

Nen provided the audience with tknowledge about tasks of Bridge Engineer (BrSE), and opportunities and challenges for BrSE.

Nen, who spent 14 years working in Japan and now works as a project director, said Japan now has extremely high demand for IT workers. His project is being implemented with 400 workers, but the figure will rise to 800 by September.

‘Head to the Sun’ was the theme of a workshop on jobs and studies in Japan which was organized by FPT Japan in Vietnam in May 2018 in HCMC, Da Nang and Hanoi.

The event targeted new university graduates or experienced workers who wish to work and live in Japan. Vietnamese have opportunities to receive full scholarship for the BrSE training course and to be interviewed for job opportunities at FPT Japan and FPT Staffing.

To ensure stable economic growth from now to 2020, the Japanese government predicted that the number of foreign workers needs to increase by twofold compared with 2014, or 60,000. 

According to METI (the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), Japan would need 50,000 workers in the IT sector, and according to IPA, 60 percent of Japanese firms affirm they are seriously lacking IT workers.
