The government and people of Vietnam are willing to work with their DPRK counterparts to promote win-win cooperation across fields for benefit of their people and in line with international regulations and commitments of each country, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

PM Phuc made the statement at a meeting with Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un in Hanoi on March 1.

The Party, State and people of Vietnam always treasure and want to strengthen and develop the traditional friendship with their DPRK counterparts, he stressed.

The government leader highlighted the significance and importance of the DPRK delegation’s visit to Vietnam in reinforcing and enhancing the traditional friendship between the two countries. 

He congratulated the DPRK on its achievements during the cause of national construction and economic development, especially in implementing the five-year national economic development strategy for 2016-2020, expressing his belief that under the leadership of the WPK headed by Chairman Kim, the DPRK will soon become a rich and strong nation. 

Vietnam is also ready to coordinate with the DPRK in organising meaningful activities to celebrate the 70th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2020, the PM said.

Regarding the Korean Peninsula, PM Phuc said, as a close and sincere friend of the DPRK, Vietnam consistently supports a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developed Korean Peninsula.

Having welcomed efforts of both DPRK and US at the second DPRK-USA Summit in Hanoi, he expressed his hope that the relevant parties will continue to promote dialogues and peacefully settle related issues.

In its ability, Vietnam has and will continue to support and make positive contributions to that process, PM Phuc promised. 

For his part Chairman Kim said he was deeply impressed by Vietnam’s great achievements in national construction and socio-economic development in the recent past.  

He asserted the DPRK’s consistent stance on continuing to strengthen and develop the traditional friendship built and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and DPRK Chairman Kim Il-sung, expressing his belief that the bilateral relations will be lifted to a new height in the future. 

The DPRK Chairman expected the two sides to further expand exchanges and cooperation in different fields based on their needs and potential. 

Chairman Kim spoke highly Vietnam’s important role and position on the international arena, and thanked for the warmly, friendly and thoughtful reception of Vietnamese leaders and people as well as Vietnam’s preparations for the second DPRK-USA Summit. 

Before the meeting, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un visited the “Vietnam-DPRK relations” photo exhibition held by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

Tens of colour and black-and-white photos captured by VNA journalists in different periods feature high-level visits, major events and activities in Vietnam-DPRK friendly and cooperative ties, making them vivid evidence of the fine traditional relationship between the two nations over the past seven decades.

The Vietnamese Party, State, and people always treasure and want to consolidate and develop the traditional friendship with their counterparts of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), said National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Meeting with Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong-un in Hanoi on March 1, the top Vietnamese legislator said that the DPRK Chairman’s official visit to Vietnam will create a historic milestone in the bilateral relations.

Chairwoman Ngan expressed her belief that under the leadership of the WPK and Chairman Kim, the DPRK will reap more fruits in socio-economic development, thus improving living conditions of its people.

Wishing the East Asian country success with its 14th Supreme People’s Assembly, the NA Chairwoman said that the Vietnamese legislature stands ready to promote exchange and cooperation with its DPRK counterpart in the time to come.

She briefed the DPRK Chairman on the Vietnamese NA’s recent activities and suggested both sides enhance collaboration via exchanges of delegations at all levels, and sharing of information and experiences.

As the two countries are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2020, both sides need to coordinate to organise practical activities to bolster friendship, mutual trust, and understanding, as well as impulse cooperation between the two parties and nations, she stressed.

Regarding the second meeting in Hanoi between US President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim, Chairwoman Ngan lauded the efforts made by the two leaders. She hoped that they will continue dialogues to handle issues related to the Korean Peninsula and improve US-DPRK relations, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation, and development on the Korean Peninsula, the region, and the world as well.



The Vietnamese top legislator hopes the US and the DPRK will continue dialogues to handle issues on the Korean Peninsula. 



Chairman Kim, for his part, informed the Vietnamese leader on the DPRK’s stability and development in all aspects, while congratulating Vietnam on its socio-economic achievements over the past years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

He reiterated the DPRK’s consistent stance on continuing to reinforce and develop the traditional friendship with Vietnam, which was built and nurtured by Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and DPRK Chairman Kim Il-sung.

The DPRK Chairman said his official visit to Vietnam aims to elevate the bilateral relations to a new height.

He also spoke highly of and thanked Vietnam for its careful preparations and support for the second DPRK-USA summit.
