A report from IDC shows that 3.65 million smartphones were sold in the first quarter of the year, worth VND19.8 trillion. The overwhelming majority of the models on the list of the bestsellers were from Samsung and Oppo, which had selling prices of VND3-8 million.

There are many choices in the mid-range segment with diverse design, configuration, features and prices, including Vietnamese brands.

Though Vivas Lotus S3 LTE first appeared in the market one month ago, its manufacturer VNPT Technology has just introduced the product.

The mid-end smartphone market is controlled by Samsung and Oppo, but Vietnamese manufacturers believe there is still room as the price range fits the majority of customers.

Though having a reasonable price of VND3.99 million, Vivas Lotus S3 LTE has 5.5 inch HD screen. It uses 8-core MediaTek MT6753 CPU which provides acceptable performance with an HD display.

Like other mid-range models, Lotus S3 LTE supports 2 simcards with 4G connectivity, 3GB Ram and 32 GB of internal memory.

Asanzo, a low-cost TV brand, has announced it will market mid-end smartphones in August. Sources said Asanzo's Z5 model will be made of monolithic metal and equipped with dual cameras similar to the iPhone 7 plus.

There is no detailed information, but the company said it would sell the phone at reasonable prices to make it affordable to common users.

The most expected event in August is the launch of the next generation of BPhone 2. Some observers said instead of targeting the high-end market, BKAV, the manufacturer would use Snapdragon 625 chipset, Full HD screen and Android 7.1 operating system for BPhone 2.

BKAV initially intended to launch BPhone 2 last year. However, it decided to delay the plan to have more time for more thorough preparation. With strong configuration, observers said BPhone 2 would be among the most expensive models in the mid-end market segment, priced at VND7.5-8 million.

Mid-end products have certain advantages. VNPT Technology products, for example, will have installed apps and services developed by the manufacturer, including entertainment content services and an app to block calls and spam messages.

As for BPhone 2, some sources said the product would be integrated with Bchrome browser, dictionary, email manager and BKAV Cleaner.

However, Vietnamese smartphone models still have some problems, including low outsourcing quality, and the software is not optimal. The first BPhone launched into the market had flaws in software and picture quality.
