Vietnam’s young talent Nguyen Van Phuong stopped in the quarter-finals of men’s doubles at the World Super Junior Tennis Championships in Japan on Thursday.

Phuong, 17 and his teammate Nodskov Rune of Denmark, 15, lost to Takahata Kotomi and Shota Tange of the host Japan 6-2, 4-6, 7-10 (in a super tie-break).

Earlier, Phuong and Rune beat Gaku Moriya and Tsubasa Nakazato of Japan 6-1, 6-0 in the first round and overcame Giacomo Dambrosi and Emiliano Maggioli of Italy 6-3, 7-6(3) in the second round.

In the men’s singles second round, Phuong lost to Chen Dong of Australia 6-2, 6-2.

Phuong will continue to compete in the Dunlop Srixon Japan Open Junior in Japan in which he is No 4 seed in the men’s singles category. — VNS
