PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on October 26 delivered a speech opening the 8th Summit of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV 8) and the 7th Summit of Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS 7) in Ha Noi.





The summit saw the participation of Cambodian PM Hun Sen, Lao PM Thongloun Sisoulith, Myanmar’s President HtinKyaw, Thai Deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak, Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Shamshad Akhtar and ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh.

Regarding the cooperation in the CLMV and ACMECS, the PM said that the cooperation in these frameworks has gained a number of crucial achievements, contributing to enhancing each nation’s socio-economic development and the establishment of the ASEAN Community as well as consolidating the relations between neighboring countries.

Nations in the Mekong Region have become an important impetus for Southeast Asia's economy and the region has been evaluated as one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

The achievements have manifested the determinations and efforts of these five nations and the effective support from development partners, international sponsors and especially ASEAN, said the PM, expressing his thanks to the support.

"We are having favorable opportunities for the development of the CLMV and ACMECS," he confirmed, adding that delegates at the events will discuss new development environment and seek measures and ways to establish a dynamic, competitive and sustainable development economic region.

The Vietnamese Government attaches importance to the cooperation within the CLMV and ACMECS, willing to closely coordinate with other member countries and development partners for peace, sustainable development and prosperity in the region, he said.
