National singles ace Nguyen Tien Minh and nine other team members are representing Vietnam in the 2016 Badminton Asia Championships, taking place in Wuhan, China from April 26 to May 1.

The six-day event features Vietnam’s participation in all five categories, including the men’s and women’s singles and doubles events and the mixed doubles discipline.

Tien Minh and Cao Cuong are expected to face tough competition in the men’s singles category which gathers many of the world’s leading shuttlers such as Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia and Chinese Lin Dan and Chen Long.

Minh will take on Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia in the first round. In the event of overcoming Mustofa, the top Vietnamese player will play a crunch encounter against Chinese legend Lin Dan in the second round.

Vietnam’s no. 1 female player Vu Thi Trang will kick start her women’s singles campaign with a first-round clash against familiar Bae Yeon Ju of the Republic of Korea, while teammate Nguyen Thuy Linh will compete in the preliminary round seeking a main-round slot.

Other members of the Vietnamese team include Bao Minh – Duong Bao Duc in the men’s doubles; Vu Thi Trang – Nguyen Thi Sen and Le Thu Huyen – Pham Nhu Thao in the women’s doubles; and Pham Nhu Thao – Do Tuan Duc in the mixed doubles category.
