According to several study abroad consulting firms in Vietnam, the University of Wollongong (UOW) has updated its admission policies for Vietnamese students, effective from August 15 until further notice.

Under the new policy, UOW and the University of Wollongong College (UOWC) will not consider applications from students hailing from the five high-risk provinces of Hai Phong, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Hai Duong. The institution will continue to implement the Genuine Student (GS) assessment process and require additional financial documentation for all provinces except Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.

Additionally, students from other provinces or cities (outside of the five high-risk areas) must still meet the GS assessment requirements and provide financial documents before receiving an offer letter.

The UOW/UOWC also clarified that they will not offer English language pathway programs combined with main courses to Vietnamese students, except those from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang.

The schools will only begin GS assessments six months before the start of the course or when students have received a conditional offer, pending academic requirements such as final year 12 transcripts or a university degree.

For cases where students are waiting for English proficiency test results like IELTS or PTE, the GS assessment will only proceed once the language criteria are met.

The University of Wollongong is ranked 162nd globally and 12th in Australia, according to the QS World University Rankings 2024.

In February 2024, the Department of Education in South Australia also announced a temporary suspension of applications from students in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh to public schools (grades 1-12).
