The report by the Institute of International Education, produced with funding from the US Department of State, showed that Vietnamese students rank as the sixth largest population of foreign student enrolments in the US.

The Vietnamese enrollments breakdown as follows: undergraduate level (67.2%), graduate level (15.1%) optional practical training (7.8%), English programs and short-term training (9.9%).

Notably, the number of international students studying at colleges and universities in the US has also jumped 7% surpassing the one million threshold for the first time ever during the academic year 2015-2016.
