Le Thanh Trung and Ngo Thuy Dung triumphed in their mixed pair event.

Earlier, Southeast Asian Games champions Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Hua Van Huy, Le Thanh Trung and Nguyen Thien Phung topped the podium in the freestyle team event.

The bronzes went to the men’s and women’s teams. They also went to Nguyen Quoc Minh in the men’s U40 standard individual, Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh in the women’s freestyle individual and Nguyen Truong Quoc Dai in the men’s freestyle individual.

Athletes will compete next at the first World Beach Taekwondo Poomsae in Indonesia on July 23 and 24.

In other taekwondo news, Vietnam failed an Olympic qualification round in Manila on April 16-17.

This means Vietnam will have no taekwondo representatives at the Brazil Games this August. This is the first time Vietnam won’t be represented since before Sydney 2000, when Tran Hieu Ngan, a taekwondo athlete, pocketed the first-ever Olympic silver medal for Vietnam.
