In the overall rankings set out in the Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024, Vietnam was placed at 59th out of a total of 119 countries and territories with an average score of 3.96 out of seven.
This marks a significant downgrade against 2022 when the country ranked 52nd with an average score of 4.1 points.
The WEF reported that the lowest score recorded by the Vietnamese tourism industry was in tourist services and infrastructure with 2.2 points, thereby being placed at 80th position out of 119 countries and territories.
The country’s prioritisation of tourism index scored 3.63 points, thereby ranking 98th overall.
The index of socio-economic impact saw Vietnam stand at 115th out of 119 countries and territories, scoring 2.95 points.
The best indicators of the Vietnamese tourism industry consisted of price competitiveness at 5.68 points to rank 16th globally, as well as safety and security with 6.19 points to be placed at 23rd globally.
Vietnam is highly rated for indicators in natural resources at 26th worldwide, whilst cultural resources sees it placed at 28th, and non-leisure resources at 38th.
In Southeast Asia, Singapore enjoyed the highest ranking as its TTDI was placed in 13th position out of 119 countries and territories.
The countries ranking above Vietnam were Indonesia at 22nd, Malaysia at 35th, and Thailand at 47th. Vietnam was followed by the Philippines at 69th, Cambodia at 86th, and Laos at 91st. Among Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia represents the most improved country, jumping from 36th in 2022 to 22nd position in 2024.
The WEF developed its first report on the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index in 2007. Over the past 15 years, this report has gone on to become a leading measure in the world’s tourism industry.
