According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the woman who died in the incident was named Tuyet Nguyen.

At 3:30 PM on July 9 (local time), she jumped onto the tracks to retrieve a slipper she had dropped and was unable to climb back up as the train approached. The accident occurred at Punchbowl station in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

“The 52-year-old woman jumped onto the tracks at Punchbowl station to retrieve an item she had dropped, but she was unable to climb back up as the train approached. New South Wales medical and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and performed CPR, but the victim did not survive,” Australian police said.

Australian police also stated that their officers interviewed several witnesses present at the scene and collected security camera footage from the station “as part of the investigation.”

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the tragic incident caused the railway system at Punchbowl station to shut down, and many passengers were forced to use alternative transportation.
